The Nurses Act 1958 required maternity wards in hospitals to maintain medical progress notes and charts for all maternal patients, so that labour progress could be monitored and recorded. This series consists of such records, which contain the following information:Patient History of mother
- Name and address and age of mother
- History as to labour miscarriages
- Progress charts and medical observations
Labour details
- period of confinement
- time labour began
- time child was born
- lying in period
- complications during labour
- Drugs administered
Details relating to the newborn child
- Sex
- Condition at birth
- Progress charts and medical observations
Details relating to the attending midwife
- Name and address
- Date and hour in attendance
