Full description
This series is a collection of fire insurance policies for the years 1856 to 1873. The purpose of the policies was to insure the Public Librarys building and content against the risk of damage or destruction by fire and assurance or insurance on lives and survivors.
The policies were taken out with a number of different insurance companies over that period and were signed by the representatives of the insurance companies and Sir Redmond Barry on behalf of the Library.
Outlined in each policy are conditions, year and amounts of money for which the building and its contents were insured. The cost of the policy is also included, as is correspondence from insurance companies.
These policies are of historical interest as they record the financial value of the library and the collection for the period.
