Full description
This series consists of inward and outward correspondence from McLeod Prison Farm (VA 2682). Also known as French Island Reformatory Prison, this agency was created in 1916 under the provisions of the Indeterminate Sentences Act 1907 as an Afforestation Camp. The institution was also known as the McLeod Training Centre. It closed in 1975.These records were transferred as a gift from Jack Dihm, former Governor of the French Island Prison. It would appear that this series is the Governors Correspondence Files from this agency. The records contain information on all operations at the prison. Some records contain information on prisoners held at the prison, such as reports on particular prisoners and copies of applications made to the Governor. There are also routine records for prison officers employed at the prison, such as applications for leave, etc.
