This series consists of general correspondence files maintained by the Registry of the Superintendent's Office at the Melbourne Metropolitan Reception Prison from 1985 to 1996.

The files contain inward correspondence, copies of outward correspondence, internal memoranda and other papers relating to the functions of the Superintendent's Office. A large portion of this series relates to the administration of prisoners and the prison itself. Other material includes correspondence relating to matters such as the activities of various committees, and correspondence with the government body charged with the management of Victoria's prisons.
