This series comprises letter books of the Secretary to the Premier, containing copies of outward correspondence.

Another series is recorded in Unit 1: its date range predates the Premiers Office which was created in 1883. This correspondence (c.1876-c.1881) was created by clerks within the Treasurers Office (VA 865) who were providing secretarial support to parliamentary Boards of Enquiry and Royal Commissions. It would seem that a Mr E J Thomas, the author of this series of correspondence from Treasurers Office, later became Secretary to the Premier and re-used Unit 1 to record another correspondence series.

This series was previously registered with the title Letter Books.
