Relevant legislation was consolidated by the La Trobe Valley Act 1958 (No.6290).Minutes related to a wide range of activities for which the water authority was responsible. The minutes of meetings of Waterworks Trusts and Water and Sewerage Boards were created in accordance with section 212 of the Water Act 1890 (No.1156) and subsequent legislation including the Water Acts of 1905 (No.2016), 1958 (No.6413) and 1989 (No.80). These Acts required that for each meeting, minutes of all proceedings be recorded together with the names of all commissioners present that voted for and against motions. Full description

The La Trobe Valley Drainage Act 1951 (No.5574) established the La Trobe Valley Drainage Board (VA 1430). The Act placed the Board under the general control of the State Rivers and Water Supply Commission. The Boards function was to build, maintain and operate works for the supply of water in, and disposal of industrial and domestic waste from, the La Trobe Valley.
