These files were created to maintain a history of all school sites in Victoria.The contents of the files include a preliminary assessment report on the suitability of particular sites, valuation reports on blocks of land that the Department considered for purchase (including invoices from valuers), Parliamentary Notices of Motion regarding purchases of sites, formal acquisition or negotiated purchase of sites, transfer details, registration and endorsement dates, issue of title, Notice to Treat (compulsory acquisition process), Schedule of Claim, correspondence with Crown Solicitor and other relevant correspondence, plans, press clippings regarding the school, requisition of works and correspondence with the Public Works Department, notices of revocation of sites, notices of sale or disposal of sites, and any other information relevant to the property.
Earlier file covers have the school name and corresponding school number, plus the date range of the papers contained therein. Later file covers are headed either Facilities Branch or Building Operations and contain the same information on the cover. For subsequent series refer to VPRS 16963
This series of files is comprised of either non-current sites or earlier file parts of current sites. The Property Branch has been using the files mainly for legal issues with regards to easements, and for F.O.I. requests.
