Full description
The Board of Studies (Primary) was established in 1977 to assume the responsibilities of the Primary Certificate Committee with regard to course evaluation. The Board considered the suggested guidelines for the assessment of courses, and the suggestions on content of courses of initial training for primary teachers prepared by the Curriculum Standing Committee. It was decided that the Board would tender its advice to the Teachers Tribunal through the Primary Certificate Committee and that it would also advise the Director-General.
The Boards responsibility would be to identify those courses that were already accredited academically, and which were suitable for the specific purposes of the Teaching Service of Victoria in the areas of initial employment, teaching awards, and study leave. The Board reserved specific statements for fully accredited courses, but also undertook occasional preliminary discussions with interested institutions.
Contents of the minutes include agenda notices, names of members attending, and apologies from those members not attending the meeting, minutes of previous meetings, business arising from minutes, correspondence received, Executive Officers reports, Chairpersons reports, discussion of particular courses of tertiary study, assessment of overseas qualifications, and general business.
