The Board of Studies (Technical) was established in 1969 to advise the Director-General on matters relating to the qualifications of teachers for technical schools.

It was resolved that the Board would accept responsibility for the award of certificates approved under regulation. This responsibility involved approval of new courses, standards achieved, failure rates, and assessment of equivalence. Amendments to regulations governing qualifications were also considered to be a matter within the province of the Board.
