Full description
The Estates branch was established in 1960 with responsibility for all real estate activities of the Department including the selection of and purchase of new sites, extensions, sales, leasing easements, town planning, appeals and litigation.
This filing system was created to deal with any subjects arising concerning any Departmental land, especially school sites. The system also acted as the general Property Branch administrative filing system. Files were created as the topic arose and cover a wide range of matters. No control records for this series have been located as at December 1997.
Information appearing on the files can include press cuttings, audit reports, legislative matters, correspondence between Government Departments, other correspondence, extracts from Ministerial Committees and conferences, legal opinions, lists of expenditure, certificates of title, transfers of land, memorandums, valuations, photos, plans, and agreements for joint use of land. Basically, the system is wide-ranging and inconsistent.
Part files have been sub-numbered with letters, ie. a, b, c, etc.
