This series comprises cards created by the Office of the Ombudsman (VA 1037) to index file numbers allocated to files created in the course of investigating complaints in its general jurisdiction. Cards refer the user to files in one of two series:
the main sequence of investigation files (VPRS 11347) - these files are identified by a single number, and
files created after 1981 as part of the Offices general correspondence filing system - these files are identified by means of a multiple number file number (for example 129/1/2).
This index incorporates information for all investigations undertaken in the General Jurisdiction including those where the relevant file in VPRS 11347 was authorised for destruction. Files from the general correspondence filing system have yet to be transferred to archival custody.
The index records only the name of the person, association, organisation or Member of Parliament making the complaint and the file number allocated to the file. (More than one number is recorded if the person or organisation concerned made more than one complaint.)
