This series consists of correspondence and other papers created or received by the Melbourne Moomba Festival Limited (MMF). The MMF Ltd was a wholly owned subsidiary company of the Melbourne City Council. The MMF Ltd was responsible for organising and mounting the annual festival in Melbourne from 1958 to 1993. It operated through, or fostered the operation of, a variety of committees set up to oversee various aspects of the festival and related activities. It also undertook arrangements for other events within the City of Melbourne, such as the Lygon Street Festa, VFL Grand Final days and Melbourne Military Tattoo.

The first Moomba festival was held in 1955 and appears to have been organised by the City of Melbourne. Melbourne Moomba Festival Limited, as a specific company, was incorporated in 1958 and operated up until 1993.
