Although the range of documents captured per inquiry will vary, the following broad categories of documents are common: General administrative records relating to inquiries such as the inquiry budget, memoranda, media releases, sub-committee minutes, etc. Background papers, such as research and reports, gathered by the Committee during initial research into the matter to be investigated Correspondence files relating to the investigation or organisational aspects of the inquiry Submissions tendered by individuals or organisations during the investigation stating their views on the issues concerned Submissions received in response to public hearings or issues in the final report Transcripts of public hearings and overseas visits made during the inquiry Copies of the transcripts forwarded to various participants for amendments or corrections Reports, including the final copy as presented to Parliament, containing the Committee's findings. Regulation Subcommittee Records The Regulation Subcommittee reviews and reports of Statutory Regulations, Legislative Instruments and other subordinate legislation according to the committee's functions and responsibilities. Records of subcommittee include reports and associated documentation outlining the subcommittee's findings. Alert Digests Alert Digests are reports provided by the committee to Parliament regarding their scrutiny of Bills. Included are their findings on the content of each Bill introduced to Parliament. Full description

This series comprises records created or collected by the Joint Committee on the Scrutiny of Acts and Regulations (VA 4000). The committee undertakes scrutiny of bills, regulations and other legislative instruments in relation to personal freedoms and rights, and the delegation and oversight of legislative power.

Any Bill introduced to Parliament must be reviewed and reported on by the committee. Matters can also be referred to the committee by Order of the Governor-in-Council.

Inquiry Records
