Sir Arthur Rylah, born in 1909, was elected MLA for Kew in 1949. By 1955 he was appointed Chief Secretary and Deputy Premier of Victoria. He retired from Parliament in 1971.
This series consists of the personal correspondence, notes, subject files, and appointment and travel diaries of Sir Arthur Rylah. These records were maintained during his parliamentary career and relate to many of the issues he was required to deal with as a Member of Parliament, Chief Secretary, and Deputy Premier of Victoria. The series also contains appointment diaries, and a diary of Sir Arthurs official overseas trip to Asia and Europe.
Note: this series also contains an appointment diary from 1962 belonging to Sir Rupert Hamer, who at the time was practising law. Sir Rupert would become Premier of Victoria from 1972 to 1981.
