Full description

These are volumes containing the receipts for the purchase by individuals of annual license renewals issued for racecourses within Victoria.
These duplicate licenses contain the following information:
License Number
Date of Registration
Name and address of applicant (individual responsible for racecourse).
Name of racecourse.
Location of racecourse.
Type of racing activity to take place at racecourse (i.e. horse races, pony races, trotting).
Amount of racing days to be held at racecourse within the particular year.
Amount paid in fees:
standard renewal fee
plus 3% of previous year's takings.

Register of Racecourse Licenses (known as Racing Index after 1916)

These records contain details of all racecourse licenses issued within Victoria between 1907 and 1924. They contain all of the details that occur in the license fee butts, and in some cases provide more information, such as the previous year's gross revenue for a particular racecourse. Furthermore, entries within the Register are indexed alphabetically by name of racecourse, which makes it easier to find its registration details.
