This function, after a referendum, became one for the individual states in 1948. The Victorian Government passed the Prices Regulation Act 1948 to both control prices during the period of post-war readjustment and control the progressive removal of price control. A Minister in Charge of Prices was appointed from 1950 to 1955. Records in this series consist of the personal files relating to employees of VA 2887 Prices Control Branch. A number of these employees were members of the Commonwealth Public Service who, under the provisions of the Prices Regulation Act 1948 remained with the agency once the function came under State jurisdiction whilst others were employed as part of the Victorian State Public Service. Records include personal details of employees and details regarding their employment history and remuneration.
