VPRS 10201 Duty Roster

Full description

This series is a duty roster for officers at Castlemaine Gaol, in which the officers shifts for the upcoming 4 weeks were recorded and the locations in which officers would be working. The actual hours worked by each officer, and any overtime owing or leave taken, were also recorded.

Names of warders are written across the top of the page. Above each name in red is recorded the overtime (or undertime) of each employee at the beginning of the 4 week period.

The days of the week run down the left hand side of the page for a 4 week period. In the column for each employee, locations are given for each day that he is rostered on to work (garden, special, cells, night), as well as the number of hours he is to work in that location. The normal day shift was 8 hours, night shift was 13 hours. If the warder is taking leave or is sick, this is recorded in red next to the relevant day(s).

At the bottom of the column, various totals are given for each employee. These are: Hours required total, Hours worked total, Period balance (this period's overtime or undertime recorded), Actual balance (added to overtime/undertime figure at top of page).
