Full description
The Farmers' Debts Adjustment Board was constituted under the Farmers Debts Adjustment Act 1935 (No. 4326). The Board was appointed on 24 December 1935), and it is likely that the first meeting was held soon after 8 January 1936.Under Sections 7 and 8 of the Act the Farmers Relief Board (VA 2267) was dissolved and succeeded by the Farmers' Debts Adjustment Board. At the final meeting of the Farmers Relief Board on 7 January 1936 (see VPRS 10194), it was noted that the operation of the Board was terminated, and that the functions of the Board would be carried on under the Farmers' Debts Adjustment Board from 8 January 1936.
The Farmers' Debts Adjustment Board was dissolved in April 1950 under Section 50(4) of the Rural Finance Corporation Act 1949 (No. 5414). Records held by the PROV suggest that the Board was active until it was formally dissolved.
For each meeting of the Board, minutes of proceedings were recorded together with the names of members present. The minutes were signed by the Chairman of the Board once the minutes were confirmed at the following meeting. The minutes largely relate to the administration of the legislation for which the Board was responsible. Commonly each meeting consisted of considerations of matters under the relevant Acts, including names of applicants and the results of the Board's considerations, and consents to dealings. As there are no references to order or certificate numbers, the minutes do not appear to provide a cross-reference to case-records of the Board.
Units in this series were previously registered as Units 4 - 7 of VPRS 10194/P Minute Book.
