These cover sheets were also used for annotations by officers dealing with the matter and might include the draft of or the substance of any reply or reference onwards.The file number on the cover sheet was used to record the number of any previous piece of correspondence relating to this subject. All pieces of top-numbered correspondence received on the subject were collated together to form a file. Full description

This series consists of correpondence files which have become separated from the main filing series of correpondence files for the Department of Crown Lands and Survey. These files deal with a range of matters relating to the functions of the Department such as administrative and personnel matters, the leasing of land and the licensing of the occupation of Crown land, land sales and files relating to specific schemes of settlement such as those under the Settlement on Lands Act 1893.
