Full description

This series is a collection of volumes containing records created between 1874 and 1884 by the Public Works Department (VA 669) to record details relating to the construction of the Melbourne Law Courts. It is apparent that the work was undertaken by contractors, but the Department had a responsibility to determine the contract details and to have oversight of the progress of the work. These records are those created and kept by the Quantity Surveyor and the Supervising Inspector of Works.

These records were probably not all created and kept as a distinct series, but were assembled later into the current collection.
