Full description

This series contains the Returns completed by the Supreme Court after sittings in its criminal jurisdiction. These Returns list the persons convicted at the sittings and were forwarded to the VA 2825 Crown Law Department. From thence they were forwarded to the Governor and then returned to the Prothonotary of the Supreme Court. Details given are the date and location of the Court sitting, the name of the prisoner, the offence of which the prisoner was convicted, the sentence then commutation recommended by the Judge and the approval or Commutation of the Governor. In the case of the passing of a death sentence, its carrying out or commutation was at the behest of the Governor.
