Victorian Energy Networks Corporation (VENCorp)

Full description

VENCorp is the trading name of the Victorian Energy Networks Corporation. It was established in 1997 under the Gas Industry Act 1994 and has responsibilities regarding the gas and electricity markets pursuant to the Gas Industry Act 1994 and the Electricity Industry Act 1993.

Its primary functions are:

System operator of the gas transmission network
Developing and managing of Victoria's wholesale gas market,
Electricity and gas planning and development
Managing electricity and gas emergencies.

VENCorp falls under the Department of Infrastructure (VA 3971) and is the successor to the Victorian Power Exchange which performed the same functions for the electricity industry under the Electricity Industry Act 1994.
