Regional Ecosystems (Cover Codes) in the Brisbane City Council area.

Regional ecosystems (RE's) are vegetation communities in a bioregion that are consistently associated with a particular combination of geology, landform and soil (Sattler and Williams 1999, Vegetation Management Act 1999\\).

Vegetation Cover\\- Brisbane supports a range of different vegetation cover. These being Remnant and Non\\-remnant vegetation. Remnant vegetation is further split into regional ecosystems, whilst non\\-remnant is split into eight.

* Canal \\- man\\-made.
* Disturbed \\- predominantly thinned vegetation that no longer meets criteria for remnant vegetation on the basis of canopy cover.
* Exotic \\- vegetation dominated by exotic species.
* Native plantation e.g. Eucalyptus spp., mixed native cabinet timber species.
* Plantation \\- predominantly pine plantation (Pinus spp.) and hoop/bunya pine.
* Regrowth \\- vegetation that has been cleared and has regrown but still does not meet the criteria for remnant vegetation.
* Rehabilitation area \\- actively managed e.g. 2 Million Trees area.
* Water \\- anthropogenic water bodies.

This dataset was derived from the Queensland Herbarium dataset Regional Ecosystems 2015\\.
