[Cite as https://purl.org/au-research/grants/nhmrc/GNT1163039]Brief description Bariatric surgery and more particularly vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG) are widely performed to combat morbid obesity. To improve surgery and to ultimately replace it, it is necessary to understand how it works. Our preliminary data from an animal model shows that increased energy expenditure and improved glucose regulation in brown adipose tissue are essential to surgical success. This project will uncover what are the interactions between the gut and the brain that allow this to happen.
