Brief description
The Alaska Agricultural College and School of Mines was established in 1915 at College near Fairbanks. In 1935, it became the University of Alaska. About 1971, the University of Alaska statewide system of higher education became operational. The central university at College became the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. Two other universities, University of Alaska, Anchorage, and University of Alaska, Juneau, were created to provide upper division and graduate courses. Works published by the University before the system became operational in 1971 are found under University of Alaska (College).
