Brief description Impaired lung growth that results from respiratory infections in early life negatively impacts on respiratory health and may lead to the development of asthma and emphysema. The identification and exploitation of the factors that promote normal healthy lung development may lead to new strategies to prevent and treat respiratory diseases. We have identified a new type of cell that we think are critical for lung development. This may have substantial health and economic benefits in the future.
