Full description

This dataset has been generated to identify the contributing habitat (feeding) area to areas of potential water bird nesting sites across the Murray Darling Basin. This information coupled with existing datasets (water bird observations) will be used to build upon current knowledge of water birds and their requirements within the basin. This in turn will help inform environmental watering with a view to sustain and improve water bird breeding throughout the basin.

Lineage: Two-monthly layers for contributing area (hectares) of water bird habitat (~100m resolution; MDB extent; bi-monthly time-step; 1988-2020). The collection contains four different datasets constructed from the combination two parameters, focal radius and water depth range. For each raster cell within the input layer (version 2 of the Two-monthly flood depth, see associated collection below) if the cell has a value (presence of water or within 500 meters of water), calculate the number of cells (and therefore the area) that surround the cell given a focal radius where the water depth is between a given range.

Focal radius;
- 3 km
- 20km

Water depth range;
- 0.5 to 1.0 m
- 0.5 to 1.5 m

File names;
- 3km_0.5_1.0_waterbirdhabitat_mdb.zip
- 3km_0.5_1.5_waterbirdhabitat_mdb.zip
- 20km_0.5_1.0_waterbirdhabitat_mdb.zip
- 20km_0.5_1.5_waterbirdhabitat_mdb.zip

Each zip file contains the two-monthly layers from 1988 to 2020
