Brief description Antipsychotic medications are commonly used in managing behavioral symptoms, among nursing home residents with dementia. However, these medications only have modest effect, and can increase the risk of stroke and death. Unfortunately the use of antipsychotics in nursing homes has continued to rise in Australia. This Fellowship focuses on a subgroup of people with dementia, due to Huntington Disease. It will design and refine a flowchart to help health care workers minimize antipsychotic use, and test its effectiveness in a trial.
