Brief description
This dataset contains measured trace metal and black carbon concentration data in the Aurora Basin North (ABN) snow pit sampled during the 13/14 Antarctic field season. The snow pit is 2.5 m deep and was sampled between 7-9 January 2014 around 200 km upwind from the main ABN camp in a designated clean zone (71° 10.003' S, 110° 22.401' E). Multiple parallel profiles were sampled from the pit. Here we report data on two of those profiles analysed in the TRACE Facility at Curtin University, Australia following methods described in Winton et al. (2016). The first profile is refractory black carbon concentrations measured using a single particle soot photometer (SP2). The second profile is dissolved (d; less than 0.2 um) trace metal concentrations (Al, Fe, Pb) and total dissolvable (TD; bulk fraction weak acid leach for 3 months) trace element concentrations (Fe, Al, Pb, Na, S, Mn) analysed on a high resolution inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (HR-ICP-MS). Both black carbon and dissolved and total dissolvable trace element concentration units are nanograms per gram. Snow pit density in grams per cubic centimetres, depth in centimetres and age in years of the snow profile are included.Issued: 2020-07-02
