Full description

Tottenham Primary School (School No. 4707) (VA 3884) was a coeducational primary school located on Sunshine Road, in Melbourne’s western suburbs.

The school first opened in 1953 as Tottenham State School. The first students came from the nearby Footscray West State School (School No. 3890), which up until this time had been known as Tottenham State School. The name was changed once the new School No. 4707 was established, to more accurately reflect the locations of the two schools.

In 1970, there was a statewide decision to change the use of the term ‘State School’ to refer to all primary, secondary and technical schools instead of just primary schools, and for all primary schools to use ‘Primary School’ in the name. Accordingly, the school name was changed to Tottenham Primary School.

At the end of 1993, Tottenham Primary School was closed and merged with Tottenham North Primary School (School No. 4703) (VA 5595) to form Tottenham Crossing Primary School (School No. 5415) (VA 5594), on the Tottenham North site. The Tottenham Primary School site was subsequently sold.

Data time period: [1953 TO 1993]
