Full description
Tinternvale Primary School (VA 5316) is a co-educational Prep to Grade 6 primary school located on Tintern Ave, Ringwood East in the Maroondah City Council area in north-east Melbourne. It opened in February 1976, at which time it was listed as being situated in the suburb of Bayswater North, though the school site has not changed over time. The school catchment area includes parts of Ringwood East, Bayswater North and Croydon South. In 2008, a proposal was made to merge Tinternvale Primary School with the nearby Croydon South Primary School (School No. 4890). While Croydon South Primary School, located only 1.5km away from both Tinternvale and Dorset Primary Schools, had been experiencing declining enrolments for some years, the primary motivation in seeking a merger at this time was an opportunity to secure funding through the Victorian Government’s Building Futures: Better Schools Today Program. In the program, newly merged schools would receive priority funding, and would allow the schools to improve opportunities and facilities for students. After a period of community consultation, the Minister for Education approved the proposed merger in September 2008, to take effect 1 January 2009. The merger was completed in due course with both school councils formally dissolved by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (VA 4840) in February 2009, and a new council constituted for Tinternvale Primary School. Students commenced the 2009 school year at the existing Tinternvale Primary School campus, leaving the Croydon South Primary School site vacant.
In 2020, Tinternvale Primary School secured Minor Capital Works funding to upgrade school site security and to create a clear boundary to the adjacent public bike path and bushland. The works were completed in 2022.
