Researchers use data on the state of Australians’ health to inform policy-makers about the prevalence, incidence, geographic distribution, correlates, and risk factors for a range of health conditions. Health data for this use is most informative if it is nation- or community-wide, and representative of the Australian population. Accordingly, access to existing population-health or epidemiological data is not only economical but necessary for researchers to provide timely advice for policy and practice. Advances in methods of data linkage and harmonisation across multiple data sources is now providing even more comprehensive data on Australians’ health.
