The National Environmental Science Program (NESP) combines science and Traditional knowledge to help care for Australia's environment. NESP funds research through 4 hubs, bringing researchers together across Australia:
Scientists partner with Traditional Owners, government, community and industry to design projects for environment and climate research. These projects inform decision-making and on-ground action.
NESP is an initiative of the Australian Government, and is administered by the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water.
Climate Systems Hub

The Climate Systems Hub is providing research to advance the understanding of Australia’s climate, its extremes and associated drivers, including the fundamental drivers of rainfall, drought and bushfires, and inform climate adaptation solutions for Australia.
Sustainable Communities and Waste Hub

The Sustainable Communities and Waste Hub is providing research to reduce the impact of plastics, support sustainable people-environment interactions, and offer management options for hazardous substances and pollutants to minimise environmental and human-health impacts.
Marine and Coastal Hub

The Marine and Coastal Hub research is informing management of Australia’s marine and coastal environments, including estuaries, coast, reefs, shelf and deep-water.
Resilient Landscapes Hub

The Resilient Landscapes Hub is providing research to inform management of Australia’s terrestrial and freshwater habitats to promote resilience and sustainability.
