Astronomy research in Australia and internationally is focussed on understanding the fundamental physics of the universe. Such knowledge will be gained by answering key questions on the origins and evolution of galaxies, stars and planets; probing the physics of extreme environments; gaining deep understanding of the fundamental forces and forms of matter and energy that make up the universe; and studying the building blocks of life.
