Brief description

This dataset includes the data and analysis code for the meta-analysis on task-related interference, mind wandering, and overall, off-task thought. There are four folders, one for each phase. Additionally, there is a folder containing data about the inter-rater reliability for abstract and full-text screening phases. The folder "01 - Title and Abstract Screening" contains all records identified for each database queried and a list of the records excluded after title and abstract screening. All files are Excel files. The second folder, "02 - Full Text Screening", contains a list of all the papers included in the fulltext screening, a list of the excluded records along with the exclusion reason, and a list of all papers included after the full-text screening. All files are Excel files. The third folder, " 03 - Extracted data", contains a .csv file with all the data extracted from the records. The fourth folder, " 04 - Analysis", contains the code to analyse the extracted data. The file is a Quarto file (.qmd); the software will be needed to generate the analysis report. However, the file is plain text, and the analysis is written in R. Therefore, the analysis can be reproduced by executing the R code within the file.
Reuse Information

Existing data was sourced from:
local : DSET_EXISTING_DATA
Please note that data was also used from the following published meta-analysis: Bonifacci, P., Viroli, C., Vassura, C., Colombini, E., & Desideri, L. (2023). The relationship between mind wandering and reading comprehension: A meta-analysis. Psychonomic Bulletin & Review, 30(1), 40-59. https://doi.org/10.3758/s13423-022-02141-w Wong, A. Y., Smith, S. L., McGrath, C. A., Flynn, L. E., & Mills, C. (2022). Task-unrelated thought during educational activities: A meta-analysis of its occurrence and relationship with learning. Contemporary Educational Psychology, 71, 102098. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cedpsych.2022.102098 The data from these studies was also considered and included in the final meta-analysis where it was consistent with the inclusion criteria.

The following instruments/equipment were used to generate or capture the data:

The databases used as information sources were PsycINFO (Interface: Ovid), PsycARTICLES (Interface: Ovid), ERIC (Interface: ProQuest), Scopus, and Web of Science. Additionally, the research team used the following databases to include conference proceedings: PsycExtra (Interface: Ovid), IEEE Xplore, and ACM Digital Library.

The following software (and version) was used to analyse the data:
local : DSET_SW_DATA_ANALYSIS
That's correct and all that was used. Although we could maybe phrase this differently: The data analysis was conducted using R. All analysis was wrapped using Quarto and to generate the research reports Quarto is needed. However, the Quarto files are all plain text and the R code within these files can be run without needing Quarto.

The following software (and version) was used to generate or capture the data:
