Brief description The Embodiment of Melancholy: A Feminist Analysis of Depression. This project is a multidisciplinary investigation of depression. Drawing on a wealth of biomedical data about depression, and integrating this with psychodynamic research and feminist theories of embodiment, the project will develop robust theoretical tools for understanding the impact of endemic depression on the body. How are depressive states internalised in the biochemistry, behavioural repertoires and imaginary schemata of our bodies? Focusing on pharmacology, the gut, gender, sexuality and infancy the project will (1) transform how feminists use biological data about the body and (2) expand the affective profile through which feminists have analysed depression.\r\n
