The effect of crown rot disease on the carbon and nitrogen content in plant tissue, stem and leaf presssure and biomass in bread wheat in glasshouse and field

This dataset consists of 3 replicated glasshouse trials and one replicated field trial conducted in 2017 and 2018. Plus, and minus Fusarium pseudograminearum inoculated pots (glasshouse) or singe rows (field trial) were conducted, and data was collected at flowering and maturity on six bread wheat genotypes. At flowering and maturity, a sub sample of plants were taken from each plot or a single plant from each pot and measurements were taken on individual plants in the following months. Data collected included: growth stage according to Zadoks, shoot Length, tiller number per plant, head number per plant, number of disease tillers per plant, % of diseased tillers per plant, the length of lesion on each of the main stem and primary stems, disease severity averaged across the main and primary stems, leaf dry weight, stem dry weight, head dry weight, total dry biomass, leaf area, leaf pressure, stem pressure, head, leaf and stem carbon content and head, leaf and stem nitrogen content and total carbon and nitrogen content of plant. Glasshouse experiments were conducted at the Leslie Research Facility, Toowoomba, QLD in 2017 and at the University of Southern Queensland, Toowoomba, QLD in 2018. One field trial was conducted at the Wellcamp Research Farm, Wellcamp, QLD in 2018. Glasshouses were set for 25°C/18°C (day/night) schedule. In the 2017 glasshouse trial plants were watered with deionized water. In the 2018 glasshouse trials plants were watered with filtered rainwater. Glasshouse plants were watered to approximate field capacity as needed. One file "Abdulsada et al 2024b (unpublished).xlsx" contains data from three glasshouse trials and one field trial, with separate sheets for flowering and maturity data. Data recorded on paper and transferred to Excel spreadsheets. Leaf pressure measured using PMS Instrument Co. pressure bomb (model 1000, USA). Carbon and nitrogen content determined using LECO CN628 elemental analyser (LECO, St. Joseph, MI, USA).
