This dataset provides a breakdown of trades practiced by convicts at the Port Arthur penal station, Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania) during the period 1830-77. The data have been drawn from the research for the ARC project Landscapes of Production and Punishment (DP170103642). Each trade has been classified according to the best-standard system, History of Work Information System (HISCO), http://historyofwork.iisg.nl/major.php. This is an active dataset and may be updated as new data is sourced.
This is an active dataset and will updated by the researcher as appropriate. Each version of the dataset has been labelled appropriately for the ease of the user. Further details about this versioning and the dataset itself are available in the attached README file.
