Brief description

The Thala Valley Tip Site GIS dataset mapped from January 2001 aerial photography.
The dataset includes watercourse, waterhole, breakline, spot height, contour, embankment, rock, sea ice, snow, tide crack and contaminated site features.

Lineage

Progress Code: completed
Statement: Mapping over the Thala Valley tip site was undertaken using a Zeiss C120 Planicomp coupled to 3DD mapping software. The photography used for this was ANTC1099 Run 5 Frames 9 and 10.
The watercourse, waterhole, breakline, spot height, embankment, rock, sea ice, snow, tide crack and contaminated site data were then imported into ArcGIS 8.1 and topology was built.
Initially spot heights were picked up based on a 5m grid covering the tip site. Additional spot heights based on a 2.5m grid were added at a later stage. Two linear profiles of spot heights were also mapped.
Contour data (0.5 m interval) was interpolated from a TIN created from the 5 m interval spot heights using ArcView 3D Analyst. All spot heights excluding those on boulders were used to generate the TIN. Embankment and watercourse features were used as breaklines when forming the TIN.
Contour data (0.25 m interval) was interpolated from a TIN created from the 2.5m interval spot heights using ArcView 3D Analyst. All spot heights excluding those on boulders were used to generate the TIN.
Embankment and watercourse features were used as breaklines when forming the TIN. In rugged areas which could not be represented by a TIN the contours were mapped using a Zeiss C120 Planicomp coupled to 3DD mapping software. The photography used for this was ANTC1099 Run 5 Frames 9 and 10.
All data were attributed using ArcView 8.1.
