Full description

Sediment cells are spatially discrete areas of the coast within which marine and terrestrial landforms are likely to be connected through processes of sediment exchange, often described using sediment budgets. They include areas of sediment supply (sources), sediment loss (sinks), and the sediment transport processes linking them (pathways). Sediment transport pathways include both alongshore and cross-shore processes, and therefore cells are best represented in two-dimensions. They are natural management units with a physical basis and commonly cross jurisdictional boundaries. Purpose
This point feature class represents the Tertiary Sediment Cell Beachface Point locations for Western Australia. This dataset is held by the Department of Transport, Fremantle. Information on the criteria used to separate the cells at the Beachface Point at all three sediment cell scales. The exact criteria vary per Region and per level of sediment cell (see detailed reports for tables of criteria) but are broadly classified into rock structures, geomorphic features, change in coastal aspect and engineered structures. For each of the four criteria they are listed if they are relevant, separated by semi-colons, with any relevant further information for each criterion included within parentheses.
