Full description
The transcriptions were made by John Giacon, beginning around 1995. The first transcriptions were done using two computer programs, one for sound and the other for recording the text. Those original transcriptions are not included here. The second stage of transcription used the computer program Transcriber, which shows and plays the sound and allows input of text. Transcriber files of the tapes are included in the collection. If Transcriber is not available these can be opened with a Text Editer. More recently Elan has been used to update the transcription. Where that is the case the Elan files are included. Elan is freely downloadable. Transcriber may no longer be available. The Transcriber and Elan files can both be exported as text. The exported Yuwaalaraay Transcriber files were collected in one text file for ease of research. It made it easy to search all the tapes simultaneously: YRAlltapes. That file is included in this collection. The transcriptions are generally morphemic rather than phonetic, so that grammatical features could be easily searched for. No doubt ongoing research will clarify issues and make changes to the current transcriptions. The actual sound files are not included here. There is a document with details of the tapes and transcriptions.Notes
