Brief description

This collection is one of a set from a synchrotron experiment performed in April 2016 observing gas diffusion process in coal . This collection contains the data for krypton gas diffusion.

The gas diffusion process in different coals samples of around 7mm diameter was observed using micro-CT over a period of 3 days (the duration of the synchrotron experiment). Similar samples were exposed to pressurised xenon, krypton or CO2. The first two gases are clearly visible in the micro-CT images so diffusion over time can be easily observed. For the CO2 the swelling can be observed and with detailed analysis a small change of x-ray attenuation corresponding to gas uptake can also be observed. More details are given in the documents included as a supporting attachment.and in the paper :

Lineage

The data were collected over three days at the Imaging and Medical Beamline (IMBL) at the Australian Synchrotron. Raw data was reconstructed using the X-TRACT software on the MASSIVE supercomputer facility. 3D image alignment for the aligned datasets was done using Avizo software.
