Full description Oil palm is the most important crop in Papua New Guinea in terms of export income, directly supporting over 18000 smallholders and their extended families, and driving the cash economies in the provinces where it is grown. Future productivity of oil palm and other crops, future food security, integrity of surrounding ecosystems, and community well-being all rely on environmentally sustainable management of oil palm. This project will develop and implement sustainability indicators for soil and water resources that are meaningful, practical, and underpin the Principles and Criteria of the Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil.
