In 2000 the Government passed the Renewable Energy Authority Victoria (Amendment) Act (No. 13/2000). It abolished the Renewable Energy Authority (VA 3117), which was replaced by the Sustainable Energy Authority Victoria. As part of the amendment, the Renewable Energy Authority Victoria Act 1990 was renamed the Sustainable Energy Authority Act 1990. The functions of the new authority were to:* provide independent energy saving advice and information;
* promote the benefits of energy conservation in the community;
* encourage and facilitate the adoption of sound energy management practices in government and business;
* promote energy labelling of appliances and energy efficient house design;
* advise the Minister on policies concerning energy efficiency and renewable energy.
In 2005, the Government passed the Sustainability Victoria Act 2005 (No. 65/2005) which abolished the Sustainable Energy Authority Victoria and replaced it with Sustainability Victoria.
