Survey summary of works during surveying fieldwork at Heard Island over two voyages V1 13 - 22 October 2025 HIMI ship supported field campaign, and V2 29 December 2025 – 22 January 2026 HIMI ship supported field and marine campaign.
Surveys conducted:

Notes

Purpose
The objective of the mapping programme at HIMI was to improve the alignment of satellite imagery from both radar and optical satellites by having known features at known locations appear geographically distributed around Heard Island. The installation of corner reflectors improves the alignment of future satellite imagery. Mapping priorities included improved coastline and near coast bathymetry using medium lift and helicopter mounted sensors. Surveying priorities were an audit of survey control on the island, setting up and logging a survey base station for the control of GNSS and UAV positioning at the main pillar at Atlas Cove (AUS093), a conventional survey to connect the existing reference marks to the pillar, and survey of the installed corner reflectors.
