Full description
The collection contains specimens of gastropod and bivalve molluscs from a range of marine habitats in subtropical eastern Australia. Only specimens > 5mm are targeted although some smaller species (micromolluscs) are also in the collection. The majority of the specimens were collected as dead shells during diving activities or as part of a program assessing the utility of intertidal death assemblages (accumulations of dead shells on beaches and rocky shores) as indicators of regional diversity. Recently, the collection has been supplemented by specimens collected alive for genetic barcoding. Approximately 750 species of molluscs are represented in the collection (an inventory is imminent).
