This is an electronic collection of digitised notes and questionnaires from the study of Church and People in Richmond, 1961. It includes digital copies of completed questionnaires titled: "Study on Church and People - Questionnaire on 'What you think of the Church'", and handwritten notes regarding the study. Also included are digitised census forms, being Methodist responses from the St. Stephen's Church of England, Richmond, Parish Census of 1957. The study of Church and People in Richmond was under the direction of the Rev. Alan F. Reid of the Presbyterian Church and the Rev. Robert R. U'Ren of the Methodist Church and the population covered all known adherents of the two denominations resident in Richmond. The questionnaire form for the study is comprised of seven pages, and includes questions on general activities, the church and its place in society, church attendance, attitudes toward religion, religious beliefs, and basic demographic information (sex, age range, marital status, occupation, and length of residency). The original copies of the items are held by the State Library of Victoria. The digital copies have been created and are managed by the University of Melbourne eScholarship Research Centre. The collection is incomplete as some questionnaires are missing.
