Full description

This dataset contains the Underway (UWY) data collected on Southern Surveyor voyage SS2010_v01.The voyage took place in the Tasman Sea, 21st Jan - 15th Feb 2010. This dataset was processed and archived within the CSIRO Marine and Atmospheric Research Data Centre in Hobart. The standard Underway (=continuously recorded) dataset from a research voyage includes Navigation (NAV), Sounder, Thermosalinograph (TSG) and Meteorological (MET) data. NAV data includes GPS (Global Positioning System) measurements of latitude, longitude, ship's direction and speed. MET data includes atmospheric temperature, humidity and pressure, wind speed and direction, and incident radiation intensity. Data from "IMOS" (Integrated Marine Observing System) sensors are also included. The sensors are port and starboard radiometers and pyranometers, wind speed and gust along with direction; rain and rainrate. Data are recorded at 5 second intervals and stored in NetCDF format. For Public Access data (.csv files, 10 sec and 5 min intervals). See "Download Public Underway data and Processing Reports" link for details. Additional information regarding this dataset is contained in the cruise report for this voyage and/or the data processing report.

Statement: Data source: original field data. Data processing by CMAR Data Acquisition and Processing group. A number of discrepancies between the port and starboard air temperature and humidity sensors were noted. A number of rapid temperature increases were noted for both port and starboard temperature sensors. A conductivity lag correction factor was used as part of TSG calibration. A discrepancy between foremast and main mast rain sensors was noted. Due to an incorrect setting on the EA500 sounder system no usable echogram data were collected and hence depth data could not be QCed . See processing report for full details.
