This cruise took place in the Southern Ocean off the west coast of Tasmania and in the Tasman Sea off the northeast coast of Tasmania during 1-14 April 1987, under the leadership of F.R. Biological data collected on this cruise include length frequency, weight, gonad weight and stage from 169 orange roughy samples. 164 orange roughy stomachs were examined, 32% were empty. Of the remainder, 95% contained crustacea and 23% fish. 7 roughy had squid parts in their stomachs and one had polychaete remains. Otoliths were collected for age determinations and ovaries from 36 females for fecundity determinations. Other species caught were the spiky oreo (Neocyttus rhomboidalis) and two large (true) hake (Merluccius australis). Acoustic and echosounder data of fish shoals. Three phyllosoma larvae samples from codend liner whilst conducting a midwater trawl on the Sandy Cape Ground.
