Full description
Singleton Public School was established in 1852. A Public School offered primary level courses. Schools of this classification had a requirement for a minimum attendance of thirty children prior to 1867, and of twenty five children until 1880, when the number was reduced to twenty. From 1957, the minimum number was reduced to nine.
Singleton Public School became a Superior Public School in March, 1884. Superior Public Schools provided both Primary and post-Primary education, although from 1913 the post-Primary curriculum was restricted to vocational courses such as home science, commercial and junior technical curriculum. In January 1921 the School became an Intermediate High School. Intermediate High Schools contained both Primary and Secondary departments, and offered a basically academic course of instruction to Intermediate Certificate standard.
At the beginning of 1956, with the opening of Singleton High School, the former Intermediate High School reverted to ordinary Public School status.
In 2004, Singleton Public School was located at Hunter Street, Singleton.(1)
